The number of accidents caused by a driver who fell asleep at the wheel or blinked has been such that all automakers have been involved somehow in the development of systems that keep the driver alert. Toyota is now the last manufacturer to introduce a system for this purpose.

The system consists of a dash-mounted camera that monitors how open they are the eyelids and the tilt angle of the face. Then calculate if the eyes are “properly open”, ie in the range of 60% – 100% (“take into account the difference between the slanted eyes and which are not?).
If the system determines that the face is not looking forward or that the eyes are closed, quickly alerts the driver to buy a Red Bull (joke … activate an audible alert). Will be available initially only in Japan.
